Proposed New - Georgia State Flag

January 24, 2001, the Georgia House voted 94-82 to change the state flag to a flag displaying the state seal and other historic flags that have flown over Georgia.

The bill now moves to committee and could reach the full Senate floor early next week.

The new design rests on a field of blue, dominated by a golden Georgia seal. Below the seal on a golden banner are representations of the original 13-starred American flag, three state flags including the 1956 flag that is still flying, and the U.S. flag, all under the words, "Georgia's History."

An amendment was passed adding the words "In God We Trust" below the row of small flags.
