Missouri Nursing Schools

Licensed practical nurses play a fundamental role in the healthcare system. These professionals are responsible for providing their patients with basic care which includes helping them eat, bathe, dress, etc. Along with this, they also assist doctors and registered nurses in maintaining clear communication between the care team, maintaining records, etc. To become a licensed practical nurse, the first need a candidate needs to do is to obtain a high school diploma. After obtaining the diploma, candidates need to complete a licensed practical nurse program which should be accredited. Then they have to apply for authorization to test through their local board of nursing and also through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Once they get authorized to test, they can sign up for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). They can start practicing as a Licensed Practical Nurse once they clear the exam.

(1) Estimates for detailed occupations do not sum to the totals because the totals include occupations not shown separately. Estimates do not include self-employed workers.

(2) Annual wages have been calculated by multiplying the hourly mean wage by a “year-round, full-time” hours figure of 2,080 hours; for those occupations where there is not an hourly wage published, the annual wage has been directly calculated from the reported survey data.

(9) The location quotient is the ratio of the area concentration of occupational employment to the national average concentration. A location quotient greater than one indicates the occupation has a higher share of employment than average, and a location quotient less than one indicates the occupation is less prevalent in the area than average.
