State Seal of Kentucky

The Kentucky General Assembly passed an act on December 20, 1792, empowering the Governor for the creation of a seal for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The seal was altered several times; the present-day seal was designed by Nan Gorman, former Mayor of Hazard.

The two men depicted on the seal represent the relationship between the frontiersmen and statesmen. The seal mentions the state’s motto ”United we stand, divided we fall”.
