State Seal of Ohio

Ohio State Seal

The State Seal of Ohio has been revised numerous times in history. The Seal had no specific design from 1805 to 1866. On November 29, 1802, Ohio adopted its first constitution that established the provision for a state seal without describing it.

William Creighton Jr. Made the first sketch of the seal in 1803 but the “Coat of Arms” was first standardized in 1967 and last in 1996. The present-day seal features the Scioto River flowing between irrigated fields and Mount Logan. The 13 rays represent the original thirteen colonies while the 17 arrows represent Ohio’s Native Americans as well as the fact that Ohio was the seventeenth state to join the union.
