North Dakota Motto
Liberty and Union Now and Forever, One and Inseparable
North Dakota’s official state motto is “Liberty and Union Now and Forever, One and Inseparable.” The state motto appears on the official state seal of North Dakota.
It is credited to Senator Daniel Webster who said this in one of the most revered addresses of the United States in his reply to Hayne during the famous Webster-Hayne debate in 1830. The quote was over the issue of states’ rights and nullification.
