Oklahoma – In God We Trust!

Oklahoma-state-motto

The official state motto of Oklahoma was thought to be “Labor Omnia Vincit” which is Latin for “Work Conquers All.” But the official motto is In God We Trust. It was adopted in 1907 and also appears on the state seal. “Work conquers all” can be traced back to a phrase in Virgil Georgics’ “…Labor omnia vicit / improbus” which translates to “Steady work overcame all things.” Virgil’s Georgics was a poem written to support Augustus Caesar’s policy that was meant to encourage more Romans to become farmers.
