She Flies with her own Wings

Oregon-state-motto

Oregon designated “She Flies With Her Own Wings” as the official state motto in 1987. This replaced “The Union” which was adopted in 1957 and still appears on the state seal.

The phrase, “She Flies With Her Own Wings,” originated with Oregon’s own Supreme Court Judge Jessie Quinn Thornton and featured on the territorial seal in Latin: “Alis Volat Propriis.”
