Texas Motto – Friendship

The official state motto of Texas is simply “Friendship.” This is not surprising since the name Texas itself originates from a Native American (Caddo) word, “teyshas” which means “friends” or “allies.”
In 1930, the House Concurrent Resolution (No. 22, 41st Legislature) acknowledged this word as “Tejas” and considered it as “emblematic of the universal spirit existing in Texas and reflects the spirit that has at all times influenced our people” and thus, decided to declare “Friendship” as the motto of the State of Texas.
