Hawaii became officially
known as the “Aloha State” by a 1959 legislative act (Hawai Rev. Stat. 5-7). The same year Hawaii became a state.

Aloha is the true meaning and symbol of the Hawaiian culture and lifestyle. It means respect and love one another, and live in harmony with everything around you.
