The Equality State
WY is the Two-letter or Postal Abbreviation and Wyo. is the Traditional or Standard Abbreviation for the State of Wyoming. It is known as the “Equality State” because of the rights women have traditionally enjoyed there. Wyoming women were the first in the nation to vote, serve on juries and hold public office. Equality is also Wyoming’s state motto.
“The Cowboy State” Wyoming has officially adopted a cowboy on a bucking horse as a symbol of the state so the nickname was chosen.
“Big Wyoming” refers to the state’s size. It is the 10th largest state in square miles the US.
