Colorado State Seal

State Seal of Colorado

colorado state seal

It is believed in 1861 the Territorial Secretary Lewis Ledyard Weld and Governor William Gilpin developed the design for The Seal of Colorado which was a Territory at that time. The seal has remained unchanged except for the addition of the title ”State of Colorado” and the date of admission.

”The Eye of Providence” enclosed in a triangle, sits atop the seal, while the Roman Fasces ( bound bundle of wooden rods) symbolizes the power and authority of law which is bound by ”Union” and ”Constitution”. The state’s motto is mentioned on the seal ”Nil Sine Numine” which means ”Nothing Without Providence.” The date 1876 is when Colorado came into statehood.
