Washington Legislature does not have an officially recognized state motto so far. The state’s unofficial motto is “Alki” (or Al-ki) which is a Native American word meaning “bye and bye.”

Alki has over time evolved to mean “into the future.” Like many other states, the territorial seal originally bore the motto; the seal depicts an anchor on one side and the Goddess of Hope in the center pointing at the word “Alki.”
